Diploma of Early Childhood Education & Care qualification is aimed at people who are working with or wish to work with children. The course studies the use of organisation policies, procedures and how to plan activities and provide care for infants, pre-schoolers and primary school-aged children within a children’s service. This course also has a mandatory work placement component of 120 hours to provide you with on-the-job experience that will help you secure employment.

This qualification reflects the role of early childhood educators who are responsible for designing and implementing curriculum in early childhood education and care services. In doing so they work to implement an approved learning framework within the requirements of the Education and Care Services National Regulations and the National Quality Standard. They may have responsibility for supervision of volunteers or other staff.

Participants in this course are required to complete 240 hours of integrated work placement with the aim to:
• Strengthens experience of the workplace to support future expectations of performance in the workforce
• Develops practical skills and the application of knowledge within the workplace to promote stronger embedding of learning
• Provides exposure to real workplace situations and circumstances which cannot be replicated in a learning environment or through simulation

How long is the course?

The course duration is typically 1-2 years. Students generally have between10 to 15 contact hours per week for classes, and should set aside 10-15 hours per week for personal study time. Assessment types vary, but can include demonstrations, knowledge tests, observations, case studies, reports, projects and presentations.
